Transonic Flowprobes and Flowsensors

A range of Flowprobes and Flowsensors are available to measure fluid flow in laboratory tubing; blood flow in vessels of various diameters; and cardiac output in acute and chronic preparations.

Overview

A range of flowprobes and flowsensors are available from Transonic Systems, which are designed to be used with corresponding flowmeter modules, to accurately and precisely measure various fluid volume flows.

Perivascular Flowprobes

Measure acute and chronic in vivo flow in both small and large animal blood vessel. Perivascular flowprobes are placed external to the vessel and do not interfere with flow to the target tissues. For use with Perivascular Flow System Options.

Important Product Information:

All Transonic Perivascular Flowprobes will be discontinued on January 1, 2024. Prior to this, quantities may be limited due to supply constraints. Calibration, servicing, and repair for Perivascular Flowmeters will be supported through 31 Dec 2025. Calibration, servicing, and repair for these perivascular flowprobes will be supported through 31 Dec 2024.

If you have any questions, please contact your nearest ADInstruments Representative for further information.

Tubing Flowsensors

Measure volume flow in laboratory tubing containing non-aerated liquids including water, saline, buffer solutions, blood, and other fluids, either by splicing into or clamping onto the tubing depending on the design. Tubing flowsensors provide reliable, stable measurements even under perturbed and non-steady flow conditions. For use with Tubing Flow System Options.

Precalibrated for easy, immediate use

Transonic flowprobes and flowsensors are precalibrated and ready for immediate use. Data is recorded with a corresponding flowmeter module and via an Instrument Interface and/or PowerLab into LabChart software, where flexible recording options and real-time calculations are available.

Important Product Information:

All PXN Inline Flowsensors except the ME25PXN and ME25PXNB will be discontinued on 1 Jan 2024. Prior to this, quantities may be limited due to supply constraints. Calibrations, service & repairs will be supported through 31 Dec 2025 at the calibration parameters at the time of purchase, or last purchased calibration within the prior 24 months.

PXL Clamp-On Flowsensors will continue to be sold and supported for all sizes going forward without an end date.

If you have any questions, please contact your nearest ADInstruments Representative for further information.

Product Configurations

PS and PR Flowprobes

Product Code
PS/ PR series

These Flowprobes loosely encircle the vessel and position two transducers opposing a reflective plate to measure volume flow. The PS and PR series are available in a range of sizes, from 0.5 mm – 20 mm diameter. A 75 – 95% fit of the vessel in the probe is recommended for accurate measurements.

Ordering details:

  • PR and PS series probes are available for acute use (specify with prefix "MA") or as a custom, implantable configuration ("MC").
  • The choice of cable orientation is available for the PR and PS series only. Choose the cable orientation that best suits the anatomical site:
    • Back "B" = perpendicular to the vessel;
    • Side "S" = parallel to the vessel;
    • Lateral "L" = for thoracotomy or special application.

Microcirculation Flowprobes 0.5 and 0.7mm

Product Code
V Series

V Series flowprobes, also known as Flex series nanoprobes, are designed for acute flow measurements with high resolution at low flows in small blood vessels, which is ideal for mice. The smaller probe is suitable for vessel diameters of 0.25 - 0.5 mm (mouse and rat femoral or hepatic arteries), while the larger probe is suitable for vessel diameters of 0.35 - 0.7 mm (mouse carotid and mesenteric arteries or portal vein; and rat carotid, superior mesenteric and renal arteries). Each flowprobe has a 60 cm cable and a Flexi-handle with CRA10 connector.

Precision Handle Flowprobes

Product Code
PMP Series

These 2 – 14 mm Flowprobes have attached handles for intraoperative measurements in preclinical animal trials or vascular surgeries. The handle has a bendable neck so the probe head may be positioned as required. The open J-reflector encircles the vessel for momentary flow readings.

Acoustic gel is required to fill the air space between the probe and vessel to transmit the ultrasound signal. Hence these Flowprobes are only available for acute use preparations.

Ordering details:

  • Acute use only: MA-nPMP
  • Sizes: n = 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 mm diameter

COnfidence Flowprobes

Product Code
PAU Series

These cardiac output (CO) Flowprobes represent a completely new concept in Flowprobe design. Validated X-pattern full flow illumination is enhanced by a soft plastic probe liner to cushion the vessel, permitting sustained ultrasonic transmission with little need for acoustic coupling gel during acute intraoperative use and safe for extended implantation without complicated protocols to protect the vessel. Ideal for accurate, immediate, beat-to-beat measurements on the ascending aorta and pulmonary artery in large animal studies.

Ordering details:

  • Please specify cable length and connector (see Details tab).
  • Product code: MCnPAU where n = Size
  • Sizes: n = 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36 mm vessel diameter
  • Disposable Ultrafit Liners are available in two styles:
    • acute open style for momentary measurement
    • closed full-circle style for extended & chronic application.
  • Each COnfidence Flowprobe is supplied with 1 acute and 1 closed Disposable Ultrafit liner of the same diameter as the Flowprobe. These liners are recommended for single use only and can be purchased separately (reorder) in packs of 5.

Note: The PAU series replaces the PAX series.
