ADInstruments Modular Rodent Langendorff Apparatuses
Overview
Langendorff apparatuses incorporate Radnoti flexible modular designs with high quality crystal clear borosilicate glassware. They are designed to maintain cardiac function of an isolated rodent heart preparation via Langendorff retrograde perfusion that can be installed in either constant perfusion pressure or flow.
Constant flow perfusion allows changes in heart resistances and activity to be monitored as pressure variations and makes it easier for studies that titrate drugs into the heart using a syringe pump. However, it is important to note that the heart will not be able to auto regulate coronary flow, so production of ischemia or increases in work may result in a more severe insult than with a constant perfusion pressure circuit.
The apparatuses have Hi-Tech Heart Chambers that are suitable for mouse, rat and guinea-pig hearts. These designs allow starting with a basic apparatus, and then easily upgrading it to have recirculating options in the future if required. Furthermore, they can also easily be upgraded to the corresponding Working Heart apparatus. The modular design of these apparatuses and Quick-Disconnect water-jacketed tubings (allow quick and easy tubing assembly/disassembly) provide easy customization, modifications and additions that tailor to current or future needs.
Each aparatus includes at least:
- a Radnoti 2.0 L Water Jacketed Reservoir
- a Compliance Bubble Trap (5 ml)
- an appropriate Radnoti Hi-Tech Heart Chamber with its aortic cannulae pack
- a sturdy lab stand assembly and all associated clamp hardware
- a complete water jacketed perfusion circuit and all necessary pre-assembled tubing
- a Radnoti Tubing Adapter Kit for connector replacements or minor tubing customizations.
Each apparatus is compatible with a Radnoti Thermal Bath/Circulator and Peristaltic Pump Drive with compatible Easy Load Pump Head. They can be instrumented with compatible measurement tools (purchased separately) including PowerLab data acquisition system options, LabChart analysis software, bridge and bio amplifiers, force and pressure transducers, biopotential electrodes and stimulators.
A more compact version of a Langendorff apparatus, which is only designed for Langendorff experiments without the need for a future upgrade to a Working heart apparatus is also available.
